November 17 – Elephant Beach

It rained last night and the trek to Elephant Beach was reported to be muddy (and it was hot and humid as well).  So the guide suggested we take a boat instead, which we were quite happy to do.  The port was busy with lots of little boats.

It was about a 15 minute ride to the beach.  And it was a busy beach.

They all types of vendors selling food and trinkets and offering water sports.  There were banana boats, jet skis, and snorkeling.  However, we weren’t allowed to go snorkeling on our own with our own gear.  Instead we would need to use their equipment (our masks are prescription so that we can actually see).  So, we decided to just do a bit of wading and resting on the beach (we are still hacking a lot).

One very interesting feature was a large school of tiny fish that hovered around the shoreline.  One couldn’t actually step into the mass, the school just ebbed and flowed around people as they waded in the waters.
